Marketing “Wisdom” comes from a brilliant Super Bowl ad by Dodge!

It’s a little known fact that I have always loved hot rods. A sad fact, American muscle lost its edge for a few years, arguably the last 3-4 decades and even longer if you were born in the 50s. The decline landed smack dab in the middle of my teenage years, pretty much right about the time I got my drivers license. Unless you count me being the navigator in my buddy’s 67′ Ford Mustang, I didn’t really have a shot at owning a true hot rod. Oh, you can still get them, check in with Barrett-Jackson and a slick 69′ Chevy Camaro custom coupe will only run you a cool $200k. Let me just get my change jar … The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the American auto industry. They completely lost sight of what made them popular. Firebird, Mustang, Corvette, Camaro, Super Bee, Charger, Challenger, from classic brands like Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Pontiac, Mercury. Some brands have fallen by the wayside, while those deemed “too big to fail” have slowly given way to America’s demand for a gas sipping grocery getter. Big, tough, fast,  American auto, almost lost it all in one fell swoop as the economy tumbled and hard times crushed car sales, especially American muscle cars. They tried to keep the muscle around but the “upgrades” never really lived up to the sex appeal and the need to go fast that made old men’s palms sweaty and won young men their favorite girl with panty dropping speed. Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, and other foreign manufactures grabbed market share like a greedy toddler who just found the cookie jar and the soccer mom’s rejoiced.

Enter Dodge. I love that they are back to reclaim their birthright. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes the all new Dodge Challenger Hellcat is taking the hot rod/muscle car world by storm! It comes in with a mind blowing 707hp, 0-60 in 3.6 Seconds, and a top speed of 199 mph. For the older men, it even comes in an 8 speed automatic with paddle shifters.  I want one so bad I can smell the smoking tires. I may even have to put a Sasquatch sticker in the window and dice on the mirror. If you see me on the street you’ll know it’s me because the license plate will say SQUATCH!

Dodge is doing everything right with their commercials. I love the “Freedom” commercial which can be found on YouTube . It makes my heart race, it makes me want to drive one right now. It makes me feel like having a midlife crisis! It makes me care less about speeding tickets. It’s fun and punchy and risky and it’s tough and gritty and proud. It feels like the good ol’ days.

If your marketing is not inspiring your clients to buy your products, take a moment to watch this commercial and tell me you don’t feel like buying a Challenger and putting the hammer to the floor! The following advertising is Squatch tested and approved!
